How can we train for a world of work 4.0?

Vocational training and education has to keep up with the changed requirements the “world of work 4.0” imposes on its professionals. Professor Friedrich Hubert Esser, President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, talks to Dr. Peter Littig about the changes that are already happening and the ones we can expect within the next ten years. A special focus of the interview is on the topic of key qualifications.

Professor Esser has been President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) since 2011 and honorary professor at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne since 2005. Between 2004 and 2011, he was head of the vocational education department at the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (Zentralverband des Deutschen Handwerks.).

- Dr. Peter Littig, born 1948, is a mathematician, physicist and educational scientist. He used to teach at public and private schools and has been working in adult education since 1984. He was trainer, consultant and head of department at Control Data Institut. From 1995 on, he was head of education at DEKRA Akademie GmbH. He is now retired, but still serves as advisor on educational policy to the board of directors.He has published numerous papers and books on further education, human resource development and digitization in learning and training.
